Discover Darfur
Darfur is
an area in east Africa where almost five years of ethnic cleansing
or genocide has killed 300,000-400,000 people and displaced almost
2.5 million people. The events in Darfur have been recognized as one
of the greatest humanitarian crises of our time, yet for many people,
including
many of us in the Blackstone Valley, Darfur remains a relatively
unknown and misunderstood place. Discover Darfur will bring leading speakers and
activists on Darfur to Central Massachusetts for two weeks of activities,

Sudan:
The Cost of Silence
Photographs
by Ryan Spencer Reed, a leading documentary photographer of Darfur,
will be on exhibit at the Linwood Mill Gallery, 670
Linwood Ave.,
Northbridge, from
Apr. 26 - May 10. This free exhibit is open to
the public from 2-5pm every day except for Tuesdays April 29 and
May 6, when it will be
open
from 7-9pm. A special grand opening reception on Apr. 26,
2-5pm with refreshments and music provided by the Whitinsville
Christian Strings department. All
welcome!
Meet the Artist
On Tue,
May 6 from 7-9pm, documentary photographer Ryan Spencer
Reed, will be the special guest at a gallery open house of
his Sudan: The Cost of Silence photo exhibit.
This free exhibit is open to the public.
School Visitor Program
Ryan Spencer
Reed will be speaking at area schools and delivering a powerful message
to young people about the responsibility and opportunity they have
to apply their unique talents to create positive change. Drawing
on his own experience as a recent college graduate and now world leading
Darfur
expert and spokesperson, Reed will bring to life the challenge
facing Darfur and the role each of us can play in helping bring peace
and justice to our
world. Mr. Reed will speak at:

Liz Walker
A Glory from the God
Award Winning CBS
Channel 4 News Anchor, Liz Walker, will speak and show her documentary “A
Glory From the God”, May 1, 7pm in the auditorium
of the Northbridge Middle School. Liz filmed this documentary herself
during
her many trips to Sudan in her efforts to aid victims of
the genocide. All are invited and welcome to attend this free
event.
Up Close and Personal with Liz Walker
Also on May
1, from 3-4:30 in the afternoon, Liz will be the guest of honor at Sudan: The Cost of Silence exhibit at the Linwood
Mill. All are welcome to come and meet Liz, speak with
her about her Sudan experience,
and view the exhibit. At 1:45pm Liz Walker will be speaking
to an assembly at the Whitinsville Christian School.
