Academics
Our curriculum includes Bible, a comprehensive reading and writing program in grades K-2, a phonics and skills-based reading program in grades 3-5, a hands-on math program, map skills, language arts, penmanship, science and social studies. To develop the whole child, all elementary students attend art, library, music and physical education classes each week, while students in grades 3-5 attend weekly Spanish instruction. Elementary students participate in the Open Circle curriculum, a comprehensive, grade-differentiated social and emotional learning program for children in grades K-5. Our discovery program is for students with identified learning disabilities.
Arts
Elementary students receive a basic introduction to the history and making of art in weekly art classes. Music is part of each day in the classroom and students participate in weekly music classes. Many elementary students are involved in learning to play stringed instruments using the Suzuki method taught through the WCS Strings Program. All elementary students participate in a musical produced every other year.
Athletics
Youth hoop basketball programs are offered in the winter for students in grades 1-5, and community basketball clinics are held at WCS throughout the summer. Watch our athletics page for more information once registration is offered.
