College/Career Advising
One-on-one meetings with the counselors - students meet with their guidance counselor during the spring of the junior year and fall of their senior year regarding college admissions and career advising. Every spring all returning high school students meet with the guidance counselor to go over their academic schedule for the following year as well as goals and directions they will take as they leave WCHS. All of these meetings take place on an individual basis.
Senior Parent College Seminar Night – a meeting in middle to late September for all parents of seniors to go through the college admissions process from applications to acceptance. (Watch the web site for further information as it draws near.)
Junior Parent/student College Seminar Night – a meeting in late February early March for all parents of juniors and their student. We will discuss the college admission process from how to pick a school to how can I afford this school to what classes should I be taking as a senior? College admission counselors from Bentley College meet with the students and answering questions about the application process, essay, college visit and interview. (Watch the web site for further information as it draws near.)
Strong Interest Inventory – All juniors take this 45 minute interest inventory test which is scored and then reviewed with the student by the counselor. This tells the student what interests have come out in a high category and possible career interests for the student to explore.
Discover Career Computer Program – This is an interactive computer program given to all sophomores during the Computer Applications II class. This is a multi level inventory the students take during class. This test measures a student’s interest, ability, and values and interprets the data into job clusters which allows the student to explore other job alternatives. It is internet accessible and the student keeps the ID for the entire time at WCHS and may visit the site from home and retake the inventories as the student desires.
PSAT results meeting for parents – held in early January parents of sophomores and juniors are asked to attend a meeting explaining the PSAT results and the score report sent home. (Watch the web site for further information as it draws near.)
Financial Aid – Information regarding financial aid for students attending college is offered at both of the senior parent college seminar night as well as the junior parent/student college seminar night. FAFSA information and PROFILE information is available in the guidance office. More details about other informational meetings will be coming soon. You may also check out the following websites:
