Algebra I (Level 1)
Galileo said that “mathematics is the language God used to create the universe,” and Algebra is the language of mathematics, which makes its understanding both crucial and divine. Therefore, we begin with a rigorous review of all the algebraic topics included in an 8th grade curriculum. These topics include order of operations, properties of real numbers, signed numbers, algebraic expressions, multi-step equations and inequalities, and graphic linear equations. Then the remaining Algebra I topics are investigated. These include linear functions, systems of equations, word problems, exponents, radicals, compound inequalities, absolute value, polynomials, quadratic functions and rational functions. And, if time permits, synthetic division and complex numbers will be previewed. Students will be introduced to the TI-81 graphing calculator.
