Middle School
Animals and Peru
On Fri, May 2, ten middle school students were able to visit Heifer
International's Learning Center at Overlook Farm in Rutland. In
addition to
touring a farm and petting animals, these students learned about
sustainable development programs that Heifer begins all around
the world. They learned what actions we can take to permanently change people's
lives
for the better. Part of the day was spent visiting a Peruvian house,
and cooking a "Peru stew" over an open fire just like families in
Peru. It has been our goal to educate our students on what it means to act
justly, love mercy, and walk humbly in an unjust, needy world. Our field
trip to the farm helped a few students see this reality while getting the
chance for hands-on learning. We look forward to returning next year to
Overlook Farm!
Progress Report Jackets Due
The fourth quarter progress report jackets were to be signed and returned
by Thu, May 8. If you still find the progress report jacket at
home, be sure your son or daughter has it in hand when he or she
leaves for school on Mon, May 12. If you have not seen the progress report, you NEED
to have a session with your son or daughter to find our why you
have not seen it. Progress Reports were sent home with all students Friday, May 2.
Assembly with Liz Walker
On the afternoon of May 1, the middle school students joined the high school
students to hear Liz Walker speak and present a portion of her documentary,
A Glory From the God. Ms. Walker spoke about her work in Darfur and then
showed the beginning portion of her documentary. After viewing the portion
of the documentary, she fielded questions form the students. It was a privilege
for all to listen to Ms. Walker speak. She also complimented the students
on their insightful questions. She challenged the students to do their part
in helping those in need, whether it is those in Darfur or those in our
own communities.
Two Days with Ryan Spencer Reed
Our middle school students had the privilege to listen to Ryan Spencer
Reed on May 6 and 7. Mr. Reed shared
with the students his photographic documentary, Sudan: The Cost
of Silence, and
his experiences while in the Sudan. Students who had not seen the
actual photographic exhibit at the Linwood Mills Gallery and who
wanted to view
it had the opportunity to do so during a scheduled time with Mr.
Koeman on Thursday. Mr. Reed challenged the students and all of
us to use our God-given
talents to create positive change in the world. |
